This week, the OIWC is hosting a webinar to discuss cultivating your “it” factor. I am excited to hear insights from leaders in the outdoor and bike industry discuss “speaking the language”. Earlier this year I was asked by the OIWC to be on a panel to discuss, why trends and insights matter and how to apply them to our roles within the industry. In the webinar I mentioned a few resources that I look to, but wanted expand on these websites, blogs, newsletters, and podcasts that I am CONSTANTLY pulling information from:
Industry expert Matt Powell, contributes to Forbes and I highly recommend following him. Matt has worked in the retail industry for over 40 years and the last 20 in the Sporting Goods Industry. With over 11,000 LinkedIn connections, he sends out a bi weekly newsletter and post regularly on LinkedIn. If you add him, he will put you on his distribution list and you will receive these updates on our markets.
If you are like me and listen to podcasts while working out, check out the Intrepid Entrepreneur. The podcast is hosted by CEO and Founder of Verde Brand Communications, Kristin Carpenter-Ogden. The Intrepid Entrepreneur is a community for entrepreneurs to share their inspiration, motivation, and strategies for building businesses in the outdoor and active lifestyle markets. Kristin has interviewed influential leaders such as Scott McGuire from the Mountain Lab, Beaver Theodosakis, founder of Prana, and Wes Allen, President of the Grassroots Outdoor Alliance. These podcast are a unique source that continue to deliver a variety of perspectives from individuals that are changing the industry.
There is that old saying, that the only thing in life that is constant is CHANGE. One of the most influential CEO’s in retail, Jeff Bezos is quoted as saying, “What we need to do is always lean into the future; when the world changes around you and when it changes against you – what used to be a tail wind is now a head wind – you have to lean into that and figure out what to do because complaining isn’t a strategy”.
My dears audience, it’s time to lean into the headwind! My hope is that the industry resources mentioned in this blog post will help bring awareness and can be used in your upcoming sales meetings, key account conversations, and trade shows.
Look forward to connecting with all of you on S17 selling season tour!
