Three Thoughts Thursday

Dear Readers!!

For this installment of #ThreeThoughtsThursday, the following is what has been on my mind and wanting to share for the past few weeks!

Terry Tempest Williams – The Hour of Land: A Personal Topography of America’s National Parks

“Our kinship with Earth must be maintained; otherwise, we will find ourselves trapped in the center of our own paved-over souls with no way out.”

Four years ago, I went to a  rally to listen to land protection activist speak about the San Rafael Swell from being developed for oil and gas fracking. Standing at the foot of the capital in Salt Lake City is when I first heard Terry Tempest Williams speak. Williams is an author, conservationist, activist, and that day became my literary godmother. Her voice, words, and conviction could make anyone stop and listen. Her work ranges from issues of wilderness preservation, to women’s health, to defining relationships between culture and nature.

This week, Terry will be in the Bay Area  reading exerts from her recent book, The Hour of Land. The book release51vuQWmsLFL._AA300_ coincides with the celebration of the centennial of the National Park System and goes into detail about the challenges in the NPS. This isn’t a guide book, rather exploration into some of the most frequently visited parks –  history, insights,  and the occasional bureaucracy that goes along with any organization.

I will be going to one of the readings this weekend and I anticipate a captivating audience in attendance that will be hanging on every word from this award-winning author.

Michael Franti & Spearhead – Soul Rocker

Last week was the highly anticipated release of Michael Franti & Spearhead, new album SoulRocker. I have been ready for this album for months, since the band has done a great job of playing the new songs while on tour. The new album is filled with upbeat tempos, heartfelt lyrics, celebratory raps, and endless amounts of optimism for a more peaceful world.  It goes without saying that Franti is a remarkable musician that leads with authenticity and is brining positivity during times that are clouded with political elections, economic uncertainty, and global warming — just to name a few.

This is a MUST summer time download and concert! Perfect tunes for relaxing in the backyard hammock with a nice California IPA!

Living in Northern California the one thing we cross paths on a daily basis is poison ivy, and it gets us EVERY time. With that said, the product that has been on repeat order on my Amazon Prime account is TechNu Extreme. Tecnu Extreme is VERY effective at removing the toxic oils just after exposure, before you get a rash. The nice thing is you don’t have to rub it in as long as original Tecnu and you can use it while taking a shower. It’s rough out there – so make sure to stock up!!
